Who we are
The Australian Handball Federation Limited (Handball Australia) is Australia’s governing body for the sport of Handball – for (Indoor Olympic) Handball, Beach Handball and Wheelchair Handball.
Handball Australia is the recognised nation member of the International Handball Federation (IHF), the continental body the Oceania Continental Handball Federation (OCHF) and the Commonwealth Handball Association. Handball Australia is recognised by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The State Members are also required to be affiliated with their State Olympic bodies.
There are presently six member associations:
- ACT Handball (ACT)
- Handball SA (SA)
- Handball VIC (VIC)
- Handball West (WA)
- New South Wales Handball Association (NSWHA)
- Handball Queensland (QLD)
Handball is an Olympic sport and as such Handball Australia has adopted the IOC Transgender guidelines as endorsed at the IOC Consensus Meeting on Sex Reassignment and Hyperandrogenism in November 2015.
We recognise and value inclusion and participation in sport at community and elite level and athletes meeting these guideline requirements are eligible to compete in our Australian sanctioned activities and events.
Handball Australia has adopted Sports Integrity Australia (SIA)’s National Integrity Framework (NIF). All members, participants and non-participants in the sport of Handball are bound by these rules.
