Australia is set to open their 2022 Asian Men’s Championship campaign against Iran, when the tournament begins on 18 January, in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
Despite participating at the same tournament in previous occasions, this will be the first time the teams meet in international competition.
Australia’s second match will be against hosts Saudi Arabia, on 20 January, followed by the final match of the group phase, against India on 22 January.
The top two teams from each group will advance into the final round of competition.

This will be Iran’s 15th appearance at the tournament, in which their best result was a bronze medal at the 2016 edition, in Bahrain.
Australia is taking part in their Asian Men’s Championship, and the team’s best result was 11th in 2018, in Korea.
The top five teams at this year’s event will qualify for the 2023 Handball World Championship, which will be hosted by Poland and Sweden.
