Australia has been drawn in Group B of the 2022 Asian Men’s Handball Championship along with hosts Saudi Arabia, Iran, and India.
The official draw ceremony was conducted yesterday at the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
The group stage of the competition features 17 teams, split into four groups, with five teams were drawn into Group D.
This will be Australia’s third official participation at the Asian Championship having previously competed in 2018 and 2020. Australia also took part in 1991 in Hiroshima, but with a guest status only.
Vietnam and Singapore will make their debut at the Asian Championship, which was first held in 1977.
Current champions Qatar are vying for their fifth consecutive title.
The 2022 Men’s Handball Championship will be held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia from 18 to 31 January.
The Asian Men’s Handball Championship is also a qualification event for the 2023 World Men’s Handball Championship. The top five teams will qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted by Poland and Sweden.
