The Asian Handball Federation announced on Thursday that Saudi Arabia will host the 2022 Asian Men’s Handball Championship, from 18 to 31 January 2022.
The AHF made the decision to move the event from Iran to mitigate risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
This will be the second time Saudi Arabia will hold the event, which they first hosted in 2012.
This week, Handball Australia decided to nominate the national men’s team to participate in the event, pending restrictions around Covid-19. This will be the third time Australia participates in the Asian Men’s Championship, after 2018 in Korea and 2020 in Kuwait. Australia also participated in 1991, in Japan, but with a guest status only.
The competition will also serve as a qualifying event for the 2023 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship.
The 2023 World Handball Championship will be held in Poland and Sweden from January 12 to 29, 2023.
