Saint Kilda redeemed their group phase loss to UniSA to defeat them 38:10 (19:2) this afternoon, and move into the final of the National Club Championship.
The onslaught began from the start of the game. Within the first five minutes, St Kilda had a 6:0 lead, and things didn’t get better for UniSA after that.
Boosted by national team goalkeeper Thomas Gerstch, St Kilda’s defence offered no easy options for UniSA. Gerstch amassed an incredible 14 saves from 16 shots in the first half, and a string of fast-break assists.
In the attack phase, St Kilda were just as imposing. Their experienced back-line, led by playmaker Lazar Spirovski, wreaked havoc on UniSA’s 5:1 defence. Christopher Fallah took full advantage of the work St Kilda’s backline put in, to contribute with a series of goals from the left wing. Fallah top-scored for the match with 11 goals.
In the second semi-final, as expected, UQ defeated cross-city rivals Brisbane HC 27:14 to join St Kilda in tomorrow’s Championship final.
