Canberra overcomes Brisbane again

Canberra’s winning run continued this morning, in the women’s competition, with another two points against Brisbane.

Unlike yesterday, when Brisbane led from the start, this time the Canberra club hit the front early and maintained a safe lead throughout the match to claim the 23:18 (13:7) win.

Canberra was boosted by the arrival of Alex Mair who contributed with six goals today. Brisbane was unable to thwart Mair’s attacking speed, and only a brilliant performance by goalkeeper Paulina Walczyk avoided a scoreboard disaster. Walczyk saved a string of shots in the second half, helping her team stay in the match.

Canberra’s Hannah Mouncey top-scored with 8 goals.

Brisbane will face UTS HC this afternoon in the Sydney team’s first outing in the championship. UTS arrived early to Gold Coast, avoiding Queensland government Covid-19 travel restrictions that affected all other Sydney teams.

What he should have said was: ‘bring your gear’!
