Sydney University Handball club went down to Hungarian Champions, MKB-MVM Veszprém, 29:17, in last night’s Super Globe semi-final in Doha.
The Australian champions put in a remarkable first-half performance, keeping the Hungarians to only 9 goals in thirty minutes. Uni kept up the pressure on Veszprém up until the 40th minute mark, staying within striking distance of the Hungarians, but then a three-goal spree had the Aussies trailing by five with 15 minutes on the clock.
In the end, Veszprém proved too strong for Sydney University, taking out the match 29:17 (9:5 at the break) to advance into the final.
Sydney Uni now faces the daunting task of taking on the 2015 Champions League winners, FC Barcelona, on Thursday, following their surprise 25:26 loss to Füchse Berlin.
