Response to IHF decision to replace Australia at the 2015 Handball World Championship

AHF Logo

Overnight, Handball Australia has been made aware of the decision by the IHF Council to replace Australia with Germany for the upcoming 2015 World Championships in Qatar. Please follow the link below for the IHF announcement.…

Our statement at this time is as follows: we are aware of the IHF’s decision and are obviously disappointed, especially in relation to the timing so close to the Men’s World Championships for which our players and team management have been preparing for the last two years. We are still communicating with the IHF, our athletes and our members and will make a full statement in the very near future, following receipt of further information from the IHF. Australia has been a loyal and supportive member of the IHF since 1988 and we have fought bravely and honestly at every World Championship in which we have participated. We welcome proposals from the IHF in terms of the development of the Oceania region to ensure that our Continent achieves full recognition by the IHF and that a competitive team from Oceania can take its place at the World Championships in the quickest possible time.

We would like to thank our members and friends for their support at this time.
