High temperatures and the highest tides in recent memory washing away courts and causing the closure of the Gold Coast beaches for four days did nothing to dampen the 2016 Australian Beach Handball Championships. Thirty-one teams from Australia and New Zealand competed in Women’s, Men’s and Mixed categories at Coolangatta Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Australia and New Zealand to play for Oceania Beach Handball titles
Men’s and Women’s teams from New Zealand and Australia will play for the right to represent Oceania in the World Beach Handball Championships, being held in Hungary in July 2016.
The qualification event is held in conjunction with the 2016 Australian Beach Handball Championships at Coolangatta Beach on the Gold Coast between February 24-28.
The schedule for the 2015 Australian Beach Handball Championship has now been published.
Handball SA is will be hosting the annual event at Glenelg Beach, in the City of Holdfast Bay.
The Championship will be held from Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 February 2015.

Both Australian Beach Handball Men's and Women's teams were drawn in Group A for the World Championship to be held in Brazil.
Conducted by Giampiero Masi, Chairman of the Beach Handball Working Group of the International Handball Federation, and Mr Manoel Oliveira, President of the Brazilian Handball Federation, the preliminary round groups of the Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships in Brazil (22 to 27 July) were drawn on Friday (9 May) in Recife, the hosting city of the World Championships.
Twenty teams from across Australia competed in the Australian Beach Handball Championships at Scarborough beach in Perth, Western Australia (WA) between February 13-16. Categories were Open Men’s, Women’s and Mixed. Preliminary pool rounds were held on the Thursday and Friday, followed by finals on the Saturday and Sunday.
It’s just over 2 weeks until the Beach Nationals training camp - starting on 8 Feb around lunchtime at Scarborough Beach in Perth. The camp is open to players wishing to develop their skills further and be considered for selection into the National Beach Squads, preparing for the Beach World Championship later this year.
Costs of the 4-days camp is $75 per person (with participants sorting out your own accommodation and transport). Latest date for registration to camp is 31 January.
