National and Oceania Champions, Sydney University HC have added another title to their growing list of achievements, winning the National Men's Club Championships (Northern Conference), with ease, this weekend at the All Sorts Sports Centre, in Alexandria NSW.
The team that has represented Oceania at the IHF SuperGlobe, for the last three years, comfortably won all three of their matches and are now one-step closer to another SuperGlobe qualification. The SuperGlobe brings together all continental champions, once a year, to officially determine the world’s best handball club.
Canberra HC celebrated their return to club competition, after 4 years in the wilderness, with wins over University of Queensland and Brisbane’s Logan Wizards, but were outclassed by a more experienced Sydney University team.
Sydney Uni’s next major hurdle is most likely to come from Melbourne’s St Kilda, who won the Southern Conference, and also went close to dethroning the champions last year. Melbourne's top club will be motivated to revenge last year's one-goal loss to Sydney University.
Handball Australia wishes to thank all club participants, officials and fans who came out to support handball and make this a memorable event.
