About us

Who we are

The Australian Handball Federation (“ Handball Australia”) is Australia's governing body for the sport of Handball – for both Beach Handball and the indoor Olympic Handball version.

Handball Australia is a nation member of the International Handball Federation (IHF), a member of the continental body the Oceania Continental Handball Federation (OCHF) and a member of the Commonwealth Handball Association (currently not active).

There are presently six full member associations:

Within Australia, Handball Australia is recognised by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The State Members are also required to be affiliated with their State Olympic Committees.

Handball is recognised as an Olympic sport and as such Handball Australia has adopted the IOC Transgender guidelines as endorsed at the IOC Consensus Meeting on Sex Reassignment and Hyperandrogenism in November 2015. We recognise and value inclusion and participation in sport at community and elite level and athletes meeting these guideline requirements are eligible to compete in our Australian sanctioned activities and events.
